About Dr. Na
I am Younggon Na, MD, PhD, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee surgery and sports medicine in Seoul, South Korea.
I graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine and completed my orthopedic surgery training at Seoul National University Hospital. I subsequently completed a fellowship in Knee Surgery and Sports Medicine at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and later worked as a clinical faculty member in orthopedic surgery before continuing my career as a knee surgeon in clinical practice.
My practice is centered on the treatment of knee disorders across a wide spectrum—from sports injuries and joint-preserving procedures to knee replacement surgery. My main clinical interests include total and partial knee replacement, robotic knee surgery, osteotomy, cartilage restoration, meniscus surgery, and ligament reconstruction, including ACL, PCL, and patellofemoral disorders.
Over the years, I have also remained involved in sports medicine, academic work, and medical education. I have served as a field doctor for professional baseball and have participated in peer review for orthopedic journals.
How I Think About Knee Care
Knee surgery is rarely about choosing a procedure simply because an MRI or X-ray looks abnormal.
Age, activity level, alignment, cartilage condition, meniscus and ligament function, expectations, rehabilitation, and the natural history of the disease all matter. Two patients with similar imaging may need very different treatments.
This process of clinical decision-making is one of the most important—and often the most difficult—parts of my work.
I believe good knee care begins with understanding the patient and the problem before deciding on the operation.
Why I Created This Site
I created Dr. Na Knee as a long-term archive of what I have learned and continue to learn through clinical practice.
Here, I discuss not only what treatments are available, but also when, why, and for whom I believe they make sense. I write about knee replacement, joint preservation, meniscus and cartilage problems, sports knee injuries, rehabilitation, and evolving technologies such as robotic surgery.
Some questions in knee surgery have clear evidence-based answers. Others require judgment because the evidence is incomplete, evolving, or does not perfectly fit the individual patient.
I want this site to reflect both.
My goal is to share practical, evidence-based knowledge in a way that is useful to patients, fellow clinicians, and anyone who wants to understand knee care more deeply.
